The Twelve Apostles

 

The 'Twelve Apostles' stone circle lies about a half mile west of Holywood kirk. Traces of a late Neolithic cursus monument (a long narrow earthwork) have been excavated immediately west of the A76 from Holywood village. and just east of the Circle Another cursus is traceable immediately north of the village near the old schoolhouses. The circle is dated at roughly 3000-1500 BC., and is the largest on the Scottish mainland.
